Summer workshop on Children's Photography a success!

Heather presented a hands-on full-day workshop on July 28th, 2007 at Pikto Inc. Studios in the distillery district. The workshop was attended by several photographers starting out in their business, and some more experienced photographers looking to expand their repertoire to work with children.

A fun day was had by all, and included a mini session with a child model to demonstrate the way Heather works with children, and how the composition and lighting tips were put to use in a typical session.

The feedback for this workshop was wonderful, and I look forward to the next one!

Maternity Leave

We welcomed a new baby into our home on October 9th, 2007. I am on maternity leave until April 1st, 2008 and session bookings will not be taken during my absence. They will resume, however, on March 1, 2008 - one month prior to the sessions resuming.

Please call after March 1st if you are interested in securing a session at 416-782-6482

Birth Photography Available

A baby's birth is one of the most magical and captivating events that a family will ever experience, and one that deserves to be documented. Dads are needed in so many ways, and may not be available for camera-duty, missing the opportunity to capture that last push, that first cry, that long-awaited 'hello'.

Heather is available for private and discreet birth-photography sessions in the hospital, or at home in the event of a home birth.

Due to the on-call nature of these sessions, Heather is able to accept only one birth session per month.

If you would be interested in learning more, or seeing a sample of Heather's birth photography portfolio, please contact her to discuss the details!

Aspiring Photographer?

If you are an aspiring photographer, or already working as a professional photographer and are looking for advice or guidance on running your business or the technical aspects of photography, Heather provides long-distance mentorship to those seeking assistance.

If you are interested in learning more about shooting manually, and want to get a good handle on exposure, Heather has available a manual for sale to help you in mastering your camera, and using it to its fullest. Please contact Heather for more details by using the contact form on this site.

Heather is also available to speak to groups, and provides parent-focused workshops about how to take better photographs of your children as well as how to learn your camera and its manual functionality, geared more towards experienced photographers who want to get more from their camera and become more creative with it as an artistic tool.

Contact Heather for availability and rates.

Giving Back

The arrival of a new baby brings overwhelming feelings of joy, hope and excitement. But, for some families, this joy and hope is replaced with despair and sadness when they learn that the little miracle that they have long awaited is born still or with a life limiting illness which will eventually claim their little life.

Heather is an affiliate photographer for "Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep", a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting families experiencing infant loss. Heather volunteers her time by providing an heirloom photo session for these families to record the love that they share in their limited time together. Heather also provides families with a complete CD of images, a session album, and a DVD slideshow of their session images set to music.

There is no charge for this service.

If you, or a family you know qualifies for this service, please contact Heather by phone, or email to discuss the details.

This is just one small way in which Heather feels that she can use her talents to give back to her community.

Heather is a proud member of the International Registry of Children's Photographers (IROCP), an organization comprised of the very best photographic artists in the world. Its members are committed to promoting honesty and integrity in children's portraiture, and strive to capture your child as they truly are, rather than commanding them to look a certain way.

If you are looking for a photographer who specializes in children's portraiture, and whose vision fits with the above philosophy, please visit the IROCP website to find a photographer near you.

Heather is also a member of the American Child Photographers Charity Guild (ACPCG), a group pf photographers across the US and Canada who charitably donate their services to families with terminally ill children.
